Walking with God – Study #6
“Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit in them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people and I will be their God.” (Ezekiel 11:19-20)
The path out of darkness is through light. Jesus Christ is our light. If we accept Him as our Savior, we can come to the light. “Through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the ways of peace.” (Luke 1:78-79) Dayspring is one of the names given to Jesus in the New Testament. It means “New Dawn” and symbolizes light dispelling darkness and fear, bringing new hope and healing. God has made the provision for our healing. He promises that He will restore our souls and lead us in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. (Psalm 23:3) He sent His Son for our healing. He wants to lead us out of our darkness into His light and truth. What does healing our hearts and spirits mean? It means that we become more like Jesus Christ. The problem is we have been hurt. Things have been said to us or about us that we have taken into our spirits and we believe that it is true. Many of these wounds come from our childhood. We have been told that we are worthless or that we can do nothing. There is an old saying “sticks and stones can break my bones but words cannot hurt me. This is one of Satan’s lies. Words can cause damage that will last a life time. I have always felt that I was not creative. Then God led me into photography. I had a real problem with accepting that I was creative in my pictures. People would tell me that there was such beauty in my pictures. I would look at my pictures and I could not see what others saw. I asked God what was the problem. He told me that I had been hurt by a teacher in the fourth grade. I had been carrying that hurt all of these years. When I accepted that this was true, God healed me of this hurt. This is only one of many things that God has healed me from. I don’t believe that we will be completely healed until we get to heaven, but we need to start our healing here on earth if we are to live the life that God has for us. If we are carrying around all of our baggage, we cannot become like Jesus. Our spirits are wounded and Jesus wants to heal our spirits. He wants to bring us to the realization that we can have a life filled with the peace that passes all understanding. Over the years, if hurtful words and actions are not brought into the light of Christ, they fester like emotional cancers. Eventually they surface in problems such as anxiety, depression, addictions, compulsivity, inability for intimacy, chronic anger, eating disorders, sexual confusion, etc.
