What it means to walk with God |

E. Stanley Jones asked Gandhi how Christians could make Christianity naturalized in India, not a foreign thing…but part of the national life of India and contributing its power to India’s uplift. What would you, as one of the Hindu leaders of India, tell me, a Christian, to do in order to make this possible? Gandhi replied, “First, I would suggest that all of you Christians… must begin to live more like Jesus Christ. Second, practice your religion without adulterating it or toning it down. Third, emphasize love and make it your working force.” I started this study on walking with God because I felt that maybe I did not even know what it meant to walk with God. It seems that I struggle each day with my walk and I felt that maybe I would find out what it means to walk with God. As I look at my bookshelf, I can see many books on walking with God. Books with all types of principles and formulas that will help us find a closer walk with God. Out of all these books I believe that a leader of the Hindu religion gave us a very simple formula to walk closer to God. We need to live more like Jesus. Do you know how Jesus lived? Have you looked at the life of Jesus? Have you taken your Bible and studied the life of Jesus? If you haven’t, you need to do just that. We need to practice Christianity. Just what does that mean? It means that we practice what the Word of God teaches us. We don’t take out parts of the Bible and say that this part does not apply to me. It all applies to all of us. The most important thing we must show is love. It all can be summed up in Mark 12:30-31 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your soul, with all your mind. And with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like it, is this, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” Yes, you say, I know all of this, but I just cannot live the life that God wants me to live. I know, I can’t either. I left the ministry for several years and when God was calling me back, I told Him that I could not do it. He spoke to me as clear as anyone speaking and He said, “No you cannot live the life I want for you, but if you will give it all to Me and let Me be in control, you can live this life.” In order for me to give God control of my life I had to allow Him to heal some of my hurts and wounds in my spirit. Next week I want to write about healing these wounds.
