Spiritual Living – Guidance

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Romans 8:14 This is one of the things about the spiritual living that I have a problem with. Most of the time I just don’t know God’s will for my life. In my mind I know that God’s is leading and I can feel the pull of the Holy Spirit in the direction that I need to go. I just at times have my doubts. It is the doubts that get me into trouble. I still don’t understand why in the world God would call me into the ministry. I feel that my doubts come from the way that the world looks at a call to the ministry. If God places His hand on you and calls you to the ministry, we must be a preacher. I know that is what everyone and including me felt that I should do. I never felt that God called me to a preaching ministry. I never felt that God called me to a ministry in the church. This is another problem. If you are not part of a church, you must not be a Christian. Don’t take what I am saying wrong, I believe that we all need a group of believers that we fellowship with. This is where we find our strength. We need people that are praying for us. I have been in many churches over the years. I have been on staff, I have taught Sunday school, I have been on the board, but I have never felt that it was my calling. I am writing this today because the Holy Spirit is leading me. I know that it is for someone that is struggling with their call to the ministry. It is ministry […]

Spiritual Living – The Spirit Gives Life

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 8:13 This scripture is very plain at what we are to do. We are to live in the spirit, because if we live in the flesh, we will die. Yes, all of our bodies will die one day, but it is our spirit that lives on. Paul is very clear that when he is talking about the flesh he is talking about our sinful nature. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.” (Romans 7:5) The life that Paul is talking about is not just living with God forever, he is talking about life more abundant that we can live here on earth if we live in the spirit.  I don’t owe my fleshly or sinful desires anything! My body will die; it will rot and turn to dust, and the desires of the flesh will go the way of my body. If I live by the mandates of fleshly sins and passions, I will die the eternal death. The three words, “you will die,” certainly should cause you to consider how you live. The Holy Spirit, God’s Holy Fire burning inside of me, has the power to purify and redeem my body so that it can be used to glorify God who bought me at a great price and made someone holy and precious out of me. This should be our prayer. O Holy Spirit, purify my heart and redeem my physical body to be a place of honor and glory for God, the Father. Empower me to put to death […]

Spiritual Living – New Nature

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)” Romans 8:9 We have a new nature. When we are born again, we are new people in Jesus Christ. We are controlled not by the world and the flesh; we are controlled by the Holy Spirit. I know that when I was born again, I became a different person. I no longer wanted to follow the world and the things of the world.  I wanted to follow the things of God. I believe, and am becoming more convinced every day, that divine, miraculous, and creative power resides in the Holy Spirit. Above and beyond all natural law, yet in harmony with it, the Spirit of God presides over creation, management, the divine government, and the building of the church of God. We have seen this power of the Holy Spirit turn drunkards into on-fire-Christians and unbelievers into believers that cannot stop telling others about this life changing experience. “The Holy Spirit, who inspired prophets and empowered apostles, continues to enliven, guide, and comfort all true believers. To the actual Christian, the personality of the Holy Spirit is more real than any theory of science has to offer, for so-called science is only calculation based on human observation, which is constantly changing its assumptions. But the existence of the Holy Spirit is to the child of God a matter of Scripture revelation and of actual experience.” (Dwight Moody) I don’t understand the Holy Spirit and how He works, but by faith I know that He is present in my life and I could not […]

Spiritual Living – Transform Your Mind

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:5 If we are going to live in the spirit, we must transform our minds. We must have a mind that is set on the things of the spirit. We must redefine normal Christianity so it lines up with God’s idea of normal, not the definition that we as Christians have learned to accept. Several years ago I was praying for a gentleman to be healed in his back. The Holy Spirit moved so strong in our presence that God healed my knees. I was not praying for the healing of my knees.  Yes I needed this healing, but I had never prayed for them to be healed. To be honest I never thought about asking for God’s healing. Why did I not think about God’s healing?  Because my mind was not on the spirit, but on the physical? It was on the flesh. I was thinking worldly not about the Kingdom of God. I have not had pain in my knees since that night. Living in the spirit means that we bring the Kingdom of God to earth. In the Kingdom of God we see joy, peace, wisdom, health, wholeness. We see the power of God moving in our lives and the lives of others around us. Living in the spirit we allow God to operate in our lives, in our community, in our churches, in our schools. All of my Christian life I have prayed for revival. I have always wanted to see God perform His great power. More than ever before I feel that I am closer to seeing this revival. The change has been that […]

Spiritual Living – Freedom

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”  Romans 8:2 I am learning to live in the spirit. I am learning to trust God more and more. It seems everyday God shows me that He loves me and that I can totally trust Him with my life and everything about my life. God cares for me more than I can imagine. The more I learn to live in the spirit, the more I have the freedom. The freedom is not freedom to sin, but it is freedom that God will give me the strength to not sin. It is freedom to live a righteous life, not in the power of the law, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. The righteousness that God demands in His law is fillfiled in me through the Holy Spirit’s Power. More than anything else in my life I want to feel the presence of God in my life. This presence is the Holy Spirit giving me this freedom. Just as the freedom that we have in America. This freedom is not free. There is a cost to our freedom in America. The freedom that I have in God, cost God His Son, Jesus Christ. He paid the price for my freedom on the Cross at Calvary. I don’t write these devotions for you. I write them for me and then I share them with you. When I started writing for me it was amazing how easy it became to write. I have the freedom to write what God is showing me. “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve […]

Spiritual Living – No Condemnation

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1 There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. This verse doesn’t tell us that we can sin and just do what we want and God will look the other way. The key to no condemnation is that we walk according to the spirit. To be “in Christ Jesus” means that, for purposes of divine judgment, we do not stand before God alone, but with the righteousness of Christ himself. There is a teaching going around in our churches that God is a loving God and He will send no one to hell. That in the end no one is going to hell, we are all heaven bound. This is totally illogical and unscriptural. After all, the first two people in the world, Adam and Eve were dismissed from paradise for sin. God did not look the other way and He will not look the other way today. God has not changed. If there is no condemnation, we must be born again. The purpose of being born again is to be changed into the image of God. Being born again is restoration of man to the fellowship with God. Once man has been restored to the fellowship with God, eternal residence in paradise is assured. Yes, the truth is there is no condemnation from God if we are walking with Jesus and living in the spirit. There is conviction of sin. “And when He (the Holy Spirit) has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and […]

Spiritual Living – Our Guarantee

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.” 2 Corinthians 5:5 There are many promises in the Bible that God has made to His children. The promise that we need most is the Holy Spirit leading our way and helping us to live in the spirit. Romans 8:1-16 tells us what living in the Spirit will accomplish. This is our quarantee that God will be with us. The Spirit Rules. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1 The Spirit brings freedom. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2 We have a new nature. God’s Spirit is in us. “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:5“But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” Romans 8:9  Spiritual disposition. “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:5 “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6 The Spirit gives life. “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit, you put to death the deeds of the body, you will […]

Spiritual Living – Born Again

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 Nicodemus came to Jesus at night because he did not understand what Jesus was teaching. He believed that Jesus was from God and that He was a teacher of God. This scripture was Jesus’ answer to Nicodemus. If you are going to enter the Kingdom of God, you must be born again. If you are going to live in the spirit, you must be born again. Just what is this being born again? This born again is not a physical birth, but a spiritual birth. We are spiritual beings. We have a spirit and this spirit was formed in the image of God. Before we are born again, we are dead. Our spirit is dead to God. We were dead in our trespasses and sin.  “Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s justice, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)  For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because […]

Spiritual Living – Adventure

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:12-13 I have heard people say that they would not be a Christian, because that would be so boring. I have been walking with the Lord for nearly forty years and it has been the greatest adventure that I have ever been on. If you do not feel that being a Christian is a great adventure, you have a problem. You are not living in the spirit. If you are living a boring Christian life, powerless and fruitless and wondering why in the world you don’t have peace; you are not walking in the spirit by faith. The scripture today is a promise from God that if we ask anything in Jesus name He will answer us so that God can be glorified. The Christian life, properly understood, is not complex nor difficult. The Christian life is really very simple. It is so simple that we stumble over the very simplicity of it, and yet it is so difficult that no one can live it. “Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:14) Just why is it so difficult and yet so simple. The reason is the Christian life is a supernatural life and we cannot live it unless we live it in the spirit. I told the Lord when I returned to the ministry that I could not serve Him because I failed at everything I tried. God’s words […]

Spiritual Living – Fully Alive

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Spiritual Living

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:11 We live in a world that is trying to take away our joy; a world that is in trouble. This was never God’s plan. God’s plan for our lives is to live fully alive. To have the joy and the peace that comes only by trusting in Jesus. What does it mean to be fully alive and living in the spirit. “Fully alive human beings are alive in their external and internal senses. They see a beautiful world. They hear its music and poetry. They smell the fragrance of each new day and taste the deliciousness of each moment. Of course their senses are also insulted by ugliness and offended by odors. To be fully alive means to be open to the whole human experience. It is a struggle to climb a mountain, but the view from the top is magnificent. Fully alive individuals have activated imaginations and cultivated senses of humor. They are alive in their emotions. They are able to experience the full gamut and galaxy of human feelings—wonder, awe, tenderness, compassion, both agony and ecstasy. Fully alive people are also alive in their minds. Fully alive people are always thoughtful and reflective. They are capable of asking the right questions of life and flexible enough to let life question them. They love much. They truly love and respect themselves. This allows them to love others without judging. They are glad to be alive and glad of whom they are.” (John Powell) They enjoy life and they are open to God and His world, but they are also open to pain. They have many questions and some answers.  They are open to success and failure. […]
