Apostles Creed – Jesus the Light

Posted on Posted in Apostles Creed

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12

I believe that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World. “The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).  If Jesus is the light of the world and we are becoming like Jesus, that means that we are also the light of the world. It is the light of Jesus that shines through us that the world sees. We live in such a dark world and it seems to me that it is getting darker every day. Our light does no good if we keep it in the church building; our light must be out in the world letting others know about Jesus and His love. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.” (Matthew 5:14-15) The light of Jesus Christ can dispel the darkness of the human heart and it can show the glory of God. It is difficult to imagine a world without darkness, or sin, or sorrow, or pain, or lonely nights, or hard valleys, or long shadows. It is possible because God is a God of hope.
