“Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:26-27
God made us in His image. We are not the product of some galactic accident nor are we the occupant of the top rung of an evolutionary ladder. God made us so we are wholly dependent on Him. We are created in the image of God. Unlike the angels and the animals, we have a very special relationship with God. He gave us personality, minds to think with, emotions to feel with, and wills for making decisions, but He gave us an inner spiritual nature that enables us to worship Him. “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24) God created us in His iamge. This does not mean that God has a physical or human body. Though God does not have a physical body, He designed man so his physical body could do many things that God does: see, hear, smell, touch, speak, think, plan and many others. I believe that the spirit world is much more real than the physical world. The image of God in men and women has been marred by sin. (We will be covering that in latter devotions) We were created to have dominion over the earth. This means that we should respect our fellow human beings who are made in the image of God. We should be good stewards of earth. Our earth is a gift from God and we should guard it as a precious treasure, and invest it for the glory of God.
