Hope and Rest – Jesus Built the House

Posted on Posted in Hope and Rest

“But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself. For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God. Moses was certainly faithful in God’s house as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later. But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.” Hebrews 3:3-6

The word house is used six times in these verses. It refers to the people of God, not to a material building. David wanted to build a temple where God could dwell. But God told David that He would build David’s house and make a covenant with David’s descendants. This was Jesus Christ. Moses was a servant in the house, while Jesus is the Son over the house. Moses was a member of the household, but Jesus built the house. Jesus Christ had superiority over Moses. The prophet Moses spoke about things to come, but Jesus brought the fulfillment of these things. We know that every house is built by someone, but He that builds all things is God. We all who believe in Jesus Christ and follow Him are part of His house. The people that the book of Hebrews was written to wanted to leave Jesus. They felt that Moses was more important than Jesus. Today so many times we feel that there are things that are more important than Jesus. It may not be Moses but it is something that can take the place of Jesus. Unless we continue with Jesus, we will not see the rewards that come from following Him.
