He Book of Hebrews – Fruit of the Spirit is Joy

Posted on Posted in The Book of Hebrews

“You love justice and hate evil. Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.” Romans 1:9

I am writing this on Sunday morning. We are at home because of the coronavirus. There is no church service that we can attend in person, but we just listened to one on television. It was a good message, but being with other people is much better. I have been saying for many years that the church is just a building and we should get out of the building and be the true church. We have our chance to show people what the church is all about. It is about showing people the fruits of the Spirit, especially the joy. “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” (Galatians 5:22-25) As believers the fruit of the Spirit has been deposited in our born-again spirits. The fruits listed are Jesus’ character and His nature. “And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect; so, we will not be afraid on the day-of-judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.” (1 John 4:17) By living after the Spirit instead of the flesh, these fruits will be evident in our lives. It will overtake us; it will overflow out of us and it will be apparent to everyone around us. We don’t have to wake up moaning about the day ahead, instead we can wake up and look forward to life because Jesus lives inside us. We can then show the world what the Church of Jesus Christ looks like.
