The Book of Hebrews – God’s Rest

Posted on Posted in The Book of Hebrews

“So, God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.” Hebrews 4:6-7

We are in the middle of a pandemic. We have been in our houses for over a month. During this time, I have had God’s rest in my life. Yes, I have some concerns but I have the peace of God in my life. I have walked with God long enough to know that God is in control of my life. This is what God’s rest is all about. It is about trusting God. I don’t know what God has for us in the future, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God knows my future and that He has a plan that will work out for my good. Yes, I let Satan tell me his lies and I get depressed, but then I feel God’s presence and love in my life and I know that I can’t listen to Satan’s lies.

God’s rest comes from us looking to Jesus for our strength. Hebrews tells us to look to Jesus, “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:2) We are to look not at ourselves, our circumstances, our troubles, or the bumps in the road, but unto Jesus. The bumps are what we climb on. Today why don’t you start trusting Jesus and enter the rest that only comes from God.
