“The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.” Hebrews 1:3
Hebrews exalts the person and the work of our Lord Jesus Christ. The first three verse are to prove that Jesus Christ is superior to the prophets. The prophets were held in the highest esteem by the Jewish people. Jesus is the very Son of God and not merely a man called by God. This description could never apply to moral man. We see the glory of God in Jesus. Jesus is the expressed image of God. No human son is the exact representation of his father. There is a close relationship but not an exact representation. Jesus was the exact representation of His Father. Jesus and God are the same divine essence.
Throughout his ministry Jesus said these things. He told people that He was God’s son, He only did what he saw God doing and that they’ve seen God by seeing him. These statements fueled hatred toward him on many occasions, but He was clear in communicating that He came to reveal God to mankind in a way that we had not understood Him in the past. “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known” (John 1:18). To understand God’s full nature, we must look at, understand and know who Jesus is and know what part He had to play in history. Jesus, who created the Universe and holds it together with His powerful word, is the same one who provided purification for our sins. Purification is both an action and its result. This means that Jesus took away our sins as well as cleansed us from the guilt associated with it. Jesus is at the right hand of God which is a place of honor. To be at someone’s right hand is a place of favor and authority. At God’s right hand He is doing the work of intercession for us. Jesus coming into the world is God’s Supreme revelation.
