The Book of Hebrews – The Joy of the Lord

Posted on Posted in The Book of Hebrews

“You love justice and hate evil. Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.” Romans 1:9

The thing that I remember most about church as a child was that you had to be serious. Yes, the work of God is serious business, because it depends on where you will spend eternity but can’t we have fun serving the Lord, can’t we have the joy of the Lord. “To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” (Isaiah 61:3) When Jesus ascended and entered the heavenly glory, He was anointed for His heavenly ministry with the oil of gladness. “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” (Psalm 16:11) Yes, serving Jesus is a joy not something to always be sad about, but something that we need to shout with joy about. We need to show others this joy and peace that we have in our lives.

Jesus was anointed with joy. This means he was happy, glad, approachable, caring and let’s face it; Jesus would have been a blast to be around. I feel sure he walked around with a smile continually on His face. He probably hugged and kissed His disciples every morning. I know He made them laugh, feel special and loved. He saw the crowds come to him and had compassion on them. He would stand from morning to night teaching, healing and blessing them. Jesus drew people to Him because He was so full of life.  They had to find out what it was about. He was like no one they had ever seen before. I know that I have the joy of the Lord in my life and it gets better every day.
