“You love justice and hate evil. Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.” Romans 1:9
The reason He was anointed with joy far above anyone else is because He loved righteousness and hated wickedness. How do we have the joy of the Lord in our lives? We must love righteousness more than we love sin. If you live in sin you may be happy for a season, but happiness and joy are not the same thing. The joy of the Lord is peace and contentment. It is having the joy no matter what is happening in your life.
Jesus’ love of righteousness compelled Him to destroy sin and lawlessness in one act on the cross. This is where our joy of the Lord comes from. Then he freely offered this righteousness to mankind. “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Now through Christ we are holy and blameless. “For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” (Colossians 1:19-22) Do you have the joy in your life? If not, then all you need to do is accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. “Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.” (Romans 4:8)
