The Book of Romans – Freedom from Defeat

Posted on Posted in The Book of Romans

“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.” Romans 8:5-8

Defeat is the opposite of victory. When you lose, you suffer defeat. When you win, you defeat your enemy. This is a word that’s all about losing. If we follow Jesus and live in the Spirit, we are not defeated. We have victory over our sin nature. If we walk in the flesh, we think about things of the flesh. Our mind is on things of the world. I know that Satan at times wants me to think that God has left me and does not care about me. When I get in one of those moods, I am defeated. At those times I start talking to Jesus or reading the Bible and then I get back in the spirit where we must live always. I know living in the spirit sounds strange. How in the world do we live in the spirit? We live in the spirit by walking with Jesus. It is all about obedience. God wants obedience from His children and with obedience come the life more abundant. With obedience comes peace with God. When we have peace with God, we have peace with the world. “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.” (Isaiah 61:1) This is what freedom from defeat is all about. To God be the Glory!
