The Book of Romans – Surrender to God

Posted on Posted in The Book of Romans

“Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.  Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So, use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.” Romans 6:12-13

Surrender to God is an act of the will based on the knowledge we have of what Christ has done for us. It is an intelligent act, not the impulsive decision of a moment based on some emotional stirring. There must be in the believer’s life that final and complete surrender of the body to Jesus Christ. This does not mean there will be no further surrender, because there will be. The longer we walk with God, the deeper the fellowship must become. But there are no subsequent steps without that first step. That first complete surrender to the will of God is the most important. We are to give our whole body, mind, soul and spirit to God. For God to use us, the surrender must be complete. We must surrender daily, but that daily surrender must be based on the first complete surrender. Why does God want your whole body? “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So, you must honor God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) We must glorify God with our body. Our body is used as tools for building God’s Kingdom here on earth. We read in the Bible many examples of God using the body for His glory. God used the rod in Moses hand and conquered Egypt. We are God’s feet and hands to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. Have you made that first important surrender to God? If not, why not surrender to God right now!
