“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.” John 5:39-40
The Jewish leaders were blind. They could not see that the scriptures pointed toward Jesus Christ. Paul says it well, “You who call yourselves Jews are relying on God’s law, and you boast about your special relationship with him. You know what he wants; you know what is right because you have been taught his law. You are convinced that you are a guide for the blind and a light for people who are lost in darkness. You think you can instruct the ignorant and teach children the ways of God. For you are certain that God’s law gives you complete knowledge and truth. Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? (Romans 2:17-21) You can know the Bible and know it all by memory and still not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Satan knows the Word of God, but he still believes that he has won the battle. He still thinks that he has the power over us as followers of Jesus Christ. It is not the scriptures that save us; it is believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Yes, the scriptures are very important and God tells us that His Word will not return void. The Word of God is there to lead us to Jesus Christ our Savior.
“Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” (Hebrews 3:15)
