The Gospel of John – The Lamb of God

Posted on Posted in The Gospel of John

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.” John 1:29-30

Everyone wants to make Jesus to fit into their views. They want Jesus to be who they want Him to be. We need to look at the scripture and see just who Jesus is. The Gospel of John answers that question. Jesus is the Son of God. He is the Lamb of God who came to cover our sins with His blood. “Then Moses called all the elders of Israel together and said to them, “Go, pick out a lamb or young goat for each of your families, and slaughter the Passover animal. Drain the blood into a basin. Then take a bundle of hyssop branches and dip it into the blood. Brush the hyssop across the top and sides of the doorframes of your houses. And no one may go out through the door until morning. For the Lord will pass through the land to strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the Lord will pass over your home. He will not permit his death angel to enter your house and strike you down.” (Exodus 12:21-23) Jesus is the Lamb that was slain so that when God looks at us all He sees is the blood of Jesus. Just like in Exodus when the death angel came, he passed over the house. Jesus is also the Lamb of God mediating for us in heaven. “But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.” (Hebrews 8:7)

How amazing that God would do all of this just for us.
