“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.” John 1:1-3
“Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God spoke and it was done. God spoke the Word. As we look at the story of creation in Genesis, we see that all God created was by His spoken Word. This is what John was talking about when He wrote, “The Word was with God. Jesus Christ is God’s Word reveled to us. A Word is composed of letters. “I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.” (Revelation 1:8) There are many names of God in the scripture, the Word is just one of them. The Word was Jesus’ divine title.
“And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.” (1 John 5:20) John continued in 1 John making sure that we know that Jesus is God and He came that we may know the one and only true God.
God accomplished three things by Jesus becoming human. It was now possible for Him to die. He was touched with the feelings of our infirmities. He left an example that we could follow in His footsteps.
Do you believe that Jesus was both human and divine? If not, I pray that when we complete our study of John, you will have no doubt.
